For the Viennese punk/hardcore scene, this is undoubtedly the best era ever. Countless collectives and initiatives organize shows at venues like Venster99, Einbaumöbel, Ekh, Pankahyttn, Althangrund, on trailer communities, or at temporary, clandestine locations. The partys are regulary bursting at the seams; there are constantly so many new bands in Vienna that it’s impossible to keep track. A phenomenon. Not too far away, a young band rooted in this scene is releasing its debut album and is also helping to infiltrate our society with DIY concerts, workshops, festivals, and a clubhouse—all driven by a “Build your own fucking life” ethos that’s completely uninterested in commercial behaviour: VOMITS from Waidhofen/Ybbs in Lower Austria, located between Vienna and Linz - the people behind the cultural association “Förderband,” the noise punk festival “Fleischrock,” and their club “sturmfrei.”

Their ethos is reflected in the band’s music: noise rock, punk, hardcore! The work of Steve Albini (SHELLAC), EYEHATEGOD, old-school hardcore from BLACK FLAG to DEAD KENNEDYS, UNSANE, THE STOOGES, THE FALL, BRAINBOMBS, UNWOUND, and BIB serve as key influences.

The artwork features photos from the fantastic Viennese dive bar book “Golden Days Before They End” by Klaus Pichler & Clemens Marschall aka ROKKO ANAL, the publisher of the infamous noise rock, curiosities, and human existencial zine “Rokkos Adventures”.

Otto Horvath, known for his work with NITRO MAHALIA, PULVERIN, and TRUUDE HERR, among others, plays guest trombone. The synth part was created by Alex Ernst, a prolific vinyl DJ. Feelix who is well known in the Viennese scene from his bands ONKEL GUSTA, ABSENT FROM THE MORNING HEADCOUNT, OPIOID CRISIS, or SICARIA, or from behind the mixing desk at the punk club VENSTER99 handled the recording and mixing.

For the quartet, formed in 2022, this is their first real album after a few Bandcamp tracks and lineup changes. And of particular importance for the band’s development: they’re finally starting to figure out which direction they want to go – and will go.

The lyrics are grumpy, emotional and critical of the social environment, as well as being self-reflective.
